COURSE LEADER: ROWENA GRIFFITHS
Class Training Academy
The Exchange, Express Park
The course is a brief introduction to telephone triage and the safe remote triage of patients either in the emergency or urgent care setting. We examine the cycle of communication, consider how we transfer communication skills from face to face to the remote context, how we build rapport and appraise questioning techniques we can use to elicit the most relevant information. We look at red flag identification, differential diagnoses and worsening advice, to ensure a patient centred, safe approach to triage. We also explore our more difficult customer groups, with tips for boundary setting, assessing stoic or non-compliant patients and breaking bad news. Relevant for practitioners operating using clinical decision making support software or practising autonomous triage.
Using a mix of practical, observational and problem based learning we will also practice these new found skills in friendly simulation.
